A hot take on drafting

Something that always gets me in NHL discussions is the so-called "good at drafting teams" to me, when I hear that Dallas or Tampa just drafted well and thats why they are good always bothers me because it acts as if that was skillful. When I think its pretty clear that it is mostly luck, for example when looking at Tampa they drafted Brayden Point in the 3rd round at 79th overall, and very good pick, but i would argue that they had no idea who he would turn into. Their other picks that year were Tony DeAngelo at 19th overall, Dominik Masin at 35th overall, Johnathan MacLoed at 57th overall all before Point. Two of those guys have 0 NHL games. What im getting at is if these teams really new who these guys were they would have taken them earlier or at least traded up for a pick to get them. This might be kind of a weird take but im interested to see if anyone else has thought about this.
