A mobile port of the wonderful game RimWorld is long overdue.
Hello everyone I’d like to start an honest, respectful discussion about something that’s been on my mind as a fan of simulation and management games — especially RimWorld. We already have RimWorld on Steam Deck, which is great because the hardware and controls allow a more portable, relaxed experience than typical PC play. The touchscreen in particular feels like it could suit RimWorld’s UI and gameplay very well — especially when managing pawns, selecting zones, and interacting with UI elements that benefit from touch input. This got me thinking: What would a RimWorld-style experience look like on Android or similar handheld devices? A few comparisons that might help frame this: 📌 Steam Deck – touchscreen advantage Touch controls add direct interaction without needing a mouse Screen size and performance are generally better than phones Still portable and comfortable for long sessions It shows us that portable, complex simulations can work well outside a desktop 📌 Prison Architect (mobile + PC) UI adapted for touch screens Works on tablets & phones Gameplay feels natural despite complexity Prison Architect demonstrates that even deep management sims can be adapted for touch-based play when designed carefully. 📌 Papers, Please (mobile + PC) Minimalist interface that works great with touch Demonstrates that choice-driven sims translate well to handheld It’s simpler than RimWorld, but its success shows how story and interaction can shine in a portable context. 🔍 So my questions to the community are: Do you think a RimWorld-style game could successfully adapt its UI and controls for Android/touch devices? What design changes (smaller maps? simplified menus? touch zones? split UI?) might help? Is the Steam Deck touchscreen proof that this kind of interaction is viable? Would you play such a version on phone/tablet/handheld, or is RimWorld’s complexity too much? I’m not talking about piracy, cracked versions, or unauthorized ports — just a thoughtful discussion about feasibility, controls, and how handheld hardware (like the Steam Deck or powerful phones/tablets) could support deep sim games. Looking forward to hearing what everyone thinks!
