I think my moms been playing me for years.
My moms (78) been widowed for close to 20 years. She has always struggled with her mental. I kept her involved with my kids but I never really wanted to spend much time with her. She always wanted me to be her Therapist, Cheerleader, Rock, you name it. She just couldn't handle life. I always tried to talk her thru her problems.
Well I retired 2 years ago and I thought I'd try to spend more time with her, help her out with some of the stuff that needed fixing around the house to make life easier for her. What a mess I had to deal with, my Dad did the bare minimum around the house, spent all their money on his hotrods.
Anyway as soon as I'm helping out she starts back in with the whining about all her problems. A lot of them are self inflicted, I don't have much patience for the whining, I let her blather on and just let it go in one ear and out the other. It really starts getting to me and I start telling her to stop, I don't care. She would go on about her problems, start crying and I would just sit there not caring. She used up all my sympathy.
She's been taking anti-depressants since I was born, been seeing therapists the whole time, never got any better.
Then about 6 months ago she falls and ends up in the hospital for a week and a nursing home for 3 weeks. While in the hospital I decide this would be a good time for me to clean her house up from all the stuff she's been hoarding. While cleaning I run across one of the hundred journals she writes all her daily routine stuff in. I go to throw it away but think maybe there some stories in there the grandkids might enjoy. So I randomly open it and read an entry.
The very first thing I read is,
Called (my name), whined, got no sympathy.
I'll repeat that, CALLED (MY NAME), WHINED, GOT NO SYMPATHY.
I was like, are you M----r F----g kidding me? She has purposely been whining at me for years just to get sympathy from me.
Frustrated.
