How do you keep track of your collection

one of my hobby goals this year is to set up a running excel document to know exactly what I have and where it's located

it seems pretty daunting truth be told....

that said how do you all keep track of what cards you have? If you have an excel document or something similar what kind of information are you keeping on it?
