OCD x Depression
I am a 20 year old college student who struggles with OCD and depression. I just want to put my story out here for anybody who might read this and feel less alone. I have struggled with harm OCD themes my entire life but they have always came and gone. It wasn’t until my sophomore year of high school where I truly had a debilitating experience with OCD. The thoughts and urges I was having concerned me so much that I thought I was a psychopath who wanted to hurt himself. That was until I got properly diagnosed and that alone washed away my symptoms for about a year and a half. They later returned my senior year where I tried to tell myself that it was just OCD but that didn’t work. It only made the thoughts harder to deal with. It took me about 6 months with the help of an OCD specialist before I was fully recovered for about 3 years. I am now a junior in college with a great friend group, good opportunities in front of me, and a supporting family. However this didn’t stop my OCD from returning again. I’m at a point in my life where I know I should be happy. I have so many great things in my life that many people would be grateful for, and trust me I am grateful, but it doesn’t stop me from feeling absolutely disgustingly low. The OCD pairs with depression and the two just beat the fucking hell out of me daily. I’m at a pretty low point with no hope, even though I know I have recovered multiple times, it still is so hard to see light at the end of the tunnel. Anyway, I’m trying a new therapist out and possibly going to hop on medications to see if that helps.
