Redraw vs Offset

Hi all,

I’m still new to this world, so hoping I can get some advice (speak to me like I’m a child). I’ve bought my first home about 4 months ago and have a pretty manageable mortgage due to not having much borrowing power to begin with.

My minimum fortnightly mortgage repayments are around $1,460, but I’ve elected to pay $1,600/fortnight to get ahead.

My loan is with CommBank, and I now see that I have $930 available for redraw.

I understand this $930 is representative of my additional repayments, but I’m trying to understand if I should be taking this and putting it straight into an offset? Or does that just defeat the purpose of making those additional repayments?

What do people do with this money? Is it best to just leave it there in case I need to access it on a rainy day, even though I’m already building emergency funds in separate offset (CommBank allows multiple with zero fees).

Thanks
