Orphans In Kid’s Shows

Have you ever noticed how in practically every movie made for kids in the last 60 years the parents are dead? So many cartoon movies and other kids movies feature kids whose parents have died or abandoned them. Why is that? Is it some kind of fear programming? There must be a reason behind it because it’s too commonplace.
