Need advice-Shading

Hi, ive been doing simple snp for a couple years now but i havent found any info on how to do shading and make stencils. I use 3rl needles mostly if thats relevant in any way. I recently made a friend who is ok with me expirimenting on him but i dont want to mess it up. Any advice for handpokes is welcome. :)))
