One of my favorite musical tropes, when a character that is explicitly supposed to be artificial or unnatural has a soundtrack or theme song that uses electronic or synth instruments. Especially if it’s contrasted with an otherwise acoustic soundtrack to heighten how out of place it is.

1) Team Fortress 2: The Robot Army

In contrast to TF2’s mostly acoustic and jazz band soundtrack, [Robots!](https://youtu.be/vw-WJkJK210?si=bqkVGje0lB62yGBP) has heavy use of synth to emphasize how artificial and mechanical the robots are.

2) Monster Hunter Wilds: Guardian Arkveld

Monster Hunter has usually only had a fully orchestral soundtrack. However, for Guardian Arkveld and other artificial monsters like Zoh Shia, [its theme](https://youtu.be/WEDMESKspeE?si=rvNORJEcKIfDU0Pw) includes electronic instruments to emphasize how unnatural its creation and existence are.

3) Star Wars The Mandalorian: Dark Troopers

In contrast to Star Wars’s usual acoustic orchestral music, Moff Gideon’s Dark Troopers have an electronic [dubstep-like theme](https://youtu.be/Ueku8NUonsg?si=y5YWi2JL1NoDmpdn) to emphasize their robotic inhumanity.

4) Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree: Lord of the Frenzied Flame

This one’s a subtle one. Elden Ring mostly has an entirely acoustic orchestral soundtrack. During this boss’s second phase though, a heavily amplified bass drum starts beating, almost drowning out the otherwise acoustic [boss theme](https://youtu.be/_aeQVSgK7EI?si=TRvnOn9gnew_lmdH). It’s hard to tell if it’s a synth drum or a distorted acoustic drum, but it’s just out of place enough to give you the feeling of how unnatural and dangerous the Frenzy Flame is.
