Can a vita be permanently bricked? Should I buy a second one just for modding?

I have a 3G OLED model and I’m thinking of using the psvsd mod so I can repurpose the 3G port and keep cartridge functionality. My question is, is a vita able to be permanently bricked? And can your account be banned? Should I buy a second one just for modding and make a new account? Maybe this is excessive but I’d be devastated to lose either my vita or account.
