That one friend who monologues about himself for hours. What to do?
I am seeking either psychological insight into his behavior or just advice on how to approach this.
Here’s the premise. Online friend named Nate. 44yo. Discord gaming group. He’s the loud, impulsive, and super easy to trigger type of guy.
Here’s the problem. **He talks A LOT 🗣️ to the point of self absorption**. This isn’t just “chatty” this is he makes everything about himself for hours. It’s verbal oppression. It’s a one way street. It’s you being his personal therapist. I’ve actually suggested he get a therapist too.
I would describe his behavior as a compulsive need to talk about his thoughts or feelings to the point of neglecting the listener’s feelings. I genuinely feel like if you replaced yourself with a cardboard cutout he wouldn’t even notice.
Yes I’ve told him many times, and no he doesn’t seem to get it. 99% of me is thinking I should just stop talking to him. 1% of me thinks maybe there’s just something I’m missing.
