How is a person who has converted from Catholicism to Protestantism (and vice versa) viewed in Ireland?

Would a Catholic who converts to Protestantism still be viewed negatively by them and be a victim of prejudice? And vice versa? Is religion really as important in Ireland as English propaganda suggests?
