Becoming Too Skeptical?
I started going all-in with Reddit partially as a replacement for the NaNoWriMo forums (Rest In Peace), and partially to improve my understanding and knowledge of witchcraft and the occult.
That was, maybe, a year ago? Up until then, my Reddit use was VERY casual; maybe checking it once every few months or so, and usually for very light communities. Nothing deeply serious.
And then, I realized I could use it to heal from NaNo drama, as well as try and learn about things I was interested in.
What I've learned, occult-wise:
- People are desperate for love, acceptance, and revenge.
- People are also desperate to force other people to do what they want, even if they say they aren't.
- Some people raised in religious backgrounds are pissed about it. Sometimes for legit reasons, but sometimes not. (Long personal story there. DM me if you want details.)
- People, in general, really don't know what they/we don't know.
- Most real witchcraft and occult knowledge will be gained in places other than social media.
- People don't know what cord cuttings are.
- Most people, even if they were raised in religious households, don't understand what faith or belief is, or how it works, or have any at all. They are starting from complete scratch. As someone who wasn't raised religious, but became heavily so on her own, and was always jealous of folks raised in religions, this is extremely mystifying to me. (How....how do you not understand? How do you not know?)
- Already having a spiritual belief system in place makes the transition to believing in magick, the occult, the supernatural, etc. much easier in a lot of ways.
- Social media is where dreams go to die. (Unless your dream is to be a social media mogul of some kind.)
- I miss early 2000s internet.
- There are either a great many more overdramatic teenagers on Reddit than I thought there would be, or at least adults of varying ages with overdramatic teen brains. (It happens.)
Ok, that all drifted some, but maybe through this stream-of-consciousness ranting, I've puzzled some things out. Who knows.
Oh. And I miss Livejournal. I really do. I wish that a random company in Russia hadn't bought it. Dang.
