Would a BSCS from WGU be a good fit for my situation?
Hey, without getting far into it, I've been going through a crisis after being laid off and I'm trying to find direction. I'm trying to find software engineering work- but nothing is sticking. I'm not getting inquiries, offers, and I'm not fitting the description for 90% of these roles.
For background: I graduated college at 21 (may 2021) with a associates degree from a local community college. Got out with a AAS (associate in applied science) in Software Development and Cyber security. I eventually got a job in Aerospace as a assistant engineer. It was good for 3 years, but I'm getting laid off this year.
People.. family, work colleagues, and strangers, keep telling me to finish my degree. Get a BSCS degree and get a bunch of certs. My manager specifically told me to make sure it's ABET certified and accredited. I looked at several options locally and far away (Washington University, and University of Alabama - Huntsville (local)). I was set on applying for WU, but it is costly.
Anyway, my dad sent me a link to WGU's BSCS page. I didn't realize it's ABET certified (which is a huge plus apparently) and WGU could be flexible while I search for work. I'm just hesitant because it's completely online.. something I've never done before. Financially, WGU is appealing- but
With all of this in mind, I want to ask the people that have already been through this and have been successful. Has WGU been a benefit for you, or have you had to rely on something else? I get experience is important (ex. job, projects), but I'm wondering if anyone has regret their decision, or maybe found WGU useful for actually getting employed.
Appreciate your responses.
