What pedals are worth the hype?

It seams that a lot of pedals nowadays get overhyped into oblivion and then end up not living up to high expectations, sometimes even set by their own marketing....

There is no feeling worse than spending money on gear after watching a bunch of amazing reviews, getting the product delivered, playing through it for the first time and realising slowly, that it's just..... Meh....

I am wondering, what pedals are actually worth the high praise and every cent spent on them? Is anything actually THAT good? Are we, mere guitarist-brained creatures, ever going to be satisfied or are we supposed to continue living in this unending pursuit of unattainable perfection that fuels our gear-induced insanity?
