Are Dance Recitals Feminist?
I’m your average middle aged Miso. I have relatives who have been in ballet recitals. For several years my blues band played double bills with a a belly dancer + her troupe. And I knew her for years, she was an avowed and enthusiastic tease.
My bad would play for forty minutes, she’d come out and dance. Kind of built in audience. We’d played a set, had a beer on the house, couldn’t leave till we put away the P.A. And this lovely girl absolutely enjoyed giving us these uh, small venue shows. If no one really showed up, the more the troupe appreciated the opening band lounging in the only filled chairs.
But ballet is high brow, right.. not pervy? It’s not supposed to be, right? Did you do some kind of dance lessons? Honestly I know how to do the Scottish line dance, Caeiliedh dancing. It’s thrilling. Hopping in time , tartan skirts flying.
How public is dancing, and at what point did you think you were doing something bad, that you’d regret?
