Studio does invites only instead of auditions for competitive team

The competitive team in our studio is by invite only. My oldest has never been invited, which is fine as she's completely happy with rec and also has ADHD which can make it difficult for her to focus at times. My youngest is 5 and invites go out at the end of the season for the comp team which starts at age 6.

My question is: with an invite only team, would it be ok to express her interest in joining the comp team to the teachers, or to ask if it would be a possibility for her? I kind of feel awkward about asking, but also if the invites go out and she isn't invited then I would probably wonder if asking them would have helped. There is little transparency about what they look for at all so I'm a bit clueless there. Also, if your studio does invites instead of auditions, what are they typically looking for in their dancers?
