CARS usefulness

Tool/Resource/Tip 🤓📚

I’m big on finding usefulness in everything—nothing I do is without a reason or without me learning something from it. I hear a lot of people say that CARS is dumb and has nothing to do with the subjects tested, especially since the other sections are at least somewhat related to science. However, through practicing multiple CARS passages, I’ve realized that I have learned something valuable from it.

I’ve been doing three CARS passages back-to-back since the beginning of my MCAT prep (about 10 days so far), and by consistently practicing and reviewing them, I’ve slowly learned how to cut out unnecessary fluff in a passage and focus only on what is likely to be tested in the questions. I’ve taken this same thought process and applied it to the other sections, and it has worked wonders for saving time. Compared to CARS, the other sections feel easier because I usually have some baseline familiarity with what will be discussed in the passages—I’m not completely blind going in.

If this perspective helps anyone reframe the CARS section, it definitely did for me.
