Help with “Traumatic” Thoughts

Beginner Question

Hi Dr. Joe Community,

I need some advice on how to let go of some “traumatic” thoughts. About 9 months ago I started dealing with really bad insomnia and was running on 2-3 hours of sleep per night. It was truly one of the worst times of my life as I just felt terrible almost every single day and was just worried that I was never going to get good sleep again. Truly nothing was helping.

It developed into sleep anxiety but slowly over time it started to get a bit better. I’d have periods where I would sleep with the help of THC products and then it would come back for a bit. Fast forward to today I’m sleeping pretty normally again but I still have thoughts sometimes at night of “what if I don’t sleep tonight?”or “what if it comes back”. I’ve learned a lot about insomnia, what fuels it, and what not to do but I’d LOVE to unlearn these thoughts.

Any tips or insights on how to do so?
