Staying In Relationship When Unhappy

I wanted some opinions on why people stay in romantic relationships they want out of instead of just leaving? This is assuming that there are no circumstances such as kids or other things that may make it more difficult to leave. I'm not saying that breaking up with someone you love is easy, but I would much rather someone just tell me they want out instead of dragging things along.
