I think my Bluetooth hardware is dying - controllers and headphones can't stay connected
Devices: Steamdeck LCD 256 First gen official Steam Dock 2x Dualshock controllers with updated firmware Sony headphones
Issue: I've been having brutal connection issues with both of my PS5 Dualshock controllers and now also headphones. It'll would be fine for a bit but then it would start drifting, then all input lag until about 5 minutes later, it freezes entirely. Using the Deck directly without a controller is fine, but I prefer playing docked to my TV.
Here's everything I've done to troubleshoot so far:
- disconnected both controllers from Bluetooth and reconnected
- checked for updates
- did a factory reset
- plugged in controllers in case charging was an issue
- ensured only one Bluetooth device was connected at a time
- turned off Bluetooth on other devices in the room
- moved the SD and controllers to another room
- Used it without being docked
- Switched to Beta channel, updated, restarted, but couldn't connect BT at all
- switched back to Stable, restarted, and tried again
- After a while, even connecting to the controller would take multiple tries
- tried Bluetooth headphones and couldn't connect at all
In every pairing attempt, the device shows in the Available to Pair list, but struggles to connect.
In Desktop Mode, bluetoothctl reports:
- “Device not available”
- “Connection aborted by local”
I've now also contacted Valve support, but figured I'd post a last-ditch attempt to see if anyone else has gone through this. I did search but nothing quite matched.
