Runescape lag skips on linux mint every time an item is dropped

I'm playing old school runescape on a laptop that should be able to handle it completely fine. I downloaded it through steam so I guess its running it on proton. Im on linux mint

the game performs perfectly well except for when items are dropped to the ground, there's like a full 1 second frame freeze. It's consistent every single time. Also something like cutting down a tree.

I'm confused on how this could happen when others report runescape running completely fine.

I'm extremely please with linux mint except for this.. any advice on where to start? Drivers are up to date.
