Starting to learn Italian and I have a few questions.

I am told “piacere” is used as a greeting like “pleasure”, short for “pleasure to meet you”? However with the conditional, “piacererei” becomes “I wish” or “I would like”. I kind of understand the difference between “piacererei” and “vorrei”, but can someone help me understand “piacere” better? Especially as a greeting.
