Project Timeline Shift vs. Earned Time Off - Management is Guilting Me
Just looking for some solid advice on how to proceed here.
I work for a Fortune 500 company. I’ve been on a major project for the past two years and have been one of the main, consistent contributors. I, along with my coworkers, have received recognition from both our CMO and CEO. I have worked extremely hard on this project and haven’t taken more than a day or two off during the entire two-year period to ensure all requirements were met. During that time, other members of my team have taken week-long vacations here and there, during which I served as the point of contact while they were out.
A few months ago, I requested a week-long vacation that aligned with the original project end date, scheduled for two weeks after the project concluded to ensure everything went smoothly. However, about a month ago, the timeline changed, and now my vacation falls during a critical phase of the project. Since this is a team effort and not solely dependent on me, I believed it would be reasonable to lean on my coworkers for coverage, just as I have done for them over the past few years.
Unfortunately, my director is very unhappy with this, and I feel as though all the work and dedication I’ve shown is being overshadowed by my desire to take time off—time that my peers have been able to take without issue. I’m now unsure whether I should still go on the trip or cancel my vacation. I’m feeling extremely discouraged, especially since I did everything within my power to remain available and responsible before the timeline changed.
