DR RICHARD GARDNER’S INTERVIEW WITH JORDAN CHANDLER

Nov 2, 2025

In October 1993, Jordan Chandler—the boy at the centre of sexual abuse allegations against Michael Jackson—was flown to New York by his lawyer, Larry Feldman, to meet Dr Richard Gardner. Gardner was no ordinary psychiatrist. He was internationally recognised as an authority on false allegations of child abuse, having developed methods to distinguish genuine claims from fabricated ones.

Despite claims from Jackson’s defenders, Chandler’s allegations were not accepted without scrutiny. Nor were they influenced by so‑called “mind‑controlling drugs” such as Sodium Amytal, as suggested by journalist Mary Fisher and others. The interview with Gardner was a structured clinical process designed to test the credibility of Chandler’s account through psychological analysis.

Gardner’s approach was meticulous. He examined not only what Chandler said, but how he said it—his tone, consistency, emotional reactions, and overall coherence. The aim was to determine whether Chandler’s story could withstand professional examination.

The interview began with Gardner explaining its purpose. He told Chandler that some believed he might be fabricating his story, and their conversation was intended to explore the truth. Gardner emphasised honesty and transparency, setting a tone of respect and psychological safety. Chandler, in turn, asked Gardner personal questions to test whether the psychiatrist genuinely cared about children.

Once Chandler appeared comfortable, the discussion moved into more specific territory. He described his early interactions with Jackson, before their relationship deepened in 1992. Gardner’s notes show that parts of the conversation were redacted—marked with “////////”—either to remove irrelevant dialogue or to censor explicit material. Chandler also mentioned other boys, whose names were anonymised to protect their identities. According to Chandler, Jackson told him these boys were involved in sexual acts, which Jackson then tried to persuade Chandler to replicate.
