non trad with lots of clinical experience, looking for advice!

❔ Question

hello!! Just some quick background, Im about to turn 26, graduated college in 2022 with a philosophy major, but also knew I wanted to go to medical school so I took all of the prereqs while in undergrad. unfortunately I had a tough time in college and finished with a 3.25 GPA :) I don’t have research experience, I do have lots of volunteer experience.

i started working as an EMT during college and have been an emergency department tech full time at a busy ER since 2022. Probably about 9000+ clinical hours. I’ll spare details but unfortunately I spent the last few years also questioning all of my decisions wondering if i am capable of success etc etc so I went back and forth constantly on what i should do with my life 😅 so at this point i still haven’t taken the mcat.

my plan is to study for and take the mcat and apply for the next cycle. My main concern is I don’t know how to secure academic LORs at this point! Having been out of school for all these years, taking a limited number of science courses, along with not really having relationships with any professors either due to large classes or covid, i don’t know who I can ask! I will be able to get great letters though from MDs who i’ve worked closely with for years, supervisors, nurses etc.

Should I take a random science class at a CC to be able to get a letter? I was going to apply mostly to DO schools because of my low GPA but if anyone thinks MD is possible (maybe i somehow get a great MCAT score or something) with my lack of research experience as well let me know! Thank you!
