Can you carry in NYC with a CCW issued in Suffolk county?

I’ve been told several different things from several instructors. One said you need a seperate ccw for nyc and another said NY is a shall issue state and you’re issued an NY ccw and you just can’t carry in sensitive places like mass transit or Times Square. What is the correct thing here?
