Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on January 13 that negotiations with the Trump administration have entered a decisive phase, with key documents on security guarantees and reconstruction "practically ready" for signing. The development comes as G7 leaders prepare to meet with both Trump and Zelenskyy at the World Economic Forum in Davos next week to finalize post-ceasefire arrangements.

Zelenskyy held a video call Monday with U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal, telling them that Ukraine is engaged in "very productive work" with President Trump and his team. The Ukrainian leader briefed the senators on Russia's combined attacks on energy infrastructure—hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles daily during what he called "a bitterly cold winter"—and emphasized that air defense missiles remain his country's top priority.

During the call, Zelenskyy and the senators discussed the status of a bipartisan sanctions bill that Trump endorsed earlier this month. The legislation, co-authored by Graham and Blumenthal, would impose 500% tariffs on countries purchasing Russian oil, gas, or uranium. Zelenskyy stressed the importance of "maximizing every possible form of pressure" on Russia, adding that ending the war depends "first and foremost on the United States and the President of the United States".
