The silence where you should be
You left without looking back,
Without asking if we were breathing,
Without wondering how small hands
Learn the shape of the world
When a father disappears.
Days pass.
Just silence—
Heavy, deliberate, chosen.
You abandoned us not with words,
But with absence.
With the empty space
Where care should have lived,
Where responsibility should have stood.
Our child knows my heartbeat,
My voice in the night,
My arms that never clock out.
He knows love because I stayed,
Because I show up
Even when I am exhausted,
Even when my heart aches
From doing this alone.
You do not know his cries.
You do not know his milestones.
You do not know the weight
Of loving someone
Who depends on you completely.
And one day,
That truth will be heavier
Than any excuse you tell yourself.
I will not chase you
I will not beg you
To care.
Your silence has taught me everything:
Who you are,
What you choose,
What I must become.
And so I rise—
Not because it’s easy,
But because my child deserves stability,
Consistency,
Love that does not vanish.
You left.
I stayed.
And in that difference
Lives the truth
No lie can erase.
