I just started simpsons from episode 1 and man, does it hold up!

Discussion

so i recently bought myself seasons 1 trough 10 during a sale on fandango.

and i was impressed at how much the show holds up and how much it made me laugh. specially the initial episodes.

I used to be a huge fan of the simpsons as a kid. I wuld record the episodes and had a bunch of them memorized. I stopped watching the show once it jumped the shark at around 2003. and since then i havent really watched the show. i sporadically watch some of the new episodes only to be extremely dissappointed and turn it off.

so anyway, I figured that by todays standards, the show would still be funny but not as funny as I remembered. or that it wouldnt make me laugh as much, or that some of the humor would not have aged well.

but damn! i aged like fine wine!. the humor still holds up. the early episodes even became funnier now. When i was a kid, i wasnt a big fan of the early episodes, not that they werent funny, they just werent as funny as the episodes from like season 3 onwards.

but watching it as an adult, they actually became funnier. and i think the reason is that the early episodes have more of an adult humor, which might have gone over my head as a kid and that i can spot now. and im not referring to adult humor as in "raunchy" humor. im talking about jokes from the perspective of adults. jokes that adults can relate to.

anyways, it was a great purchase, and i highly recommend buying it.

the format of the episodes is a bit fucked up. they made them widescreen and to achieve that, they cropped out a huge portion at the top and bottom. but still at 10 bucks per season, it was worth it. and this is a great show to keep on in the background so im not worring about the cropping issue.

also, stock up on fandango at home giftcards whenever they go on sale for 20% off and purchase the show when it hits 10 bucks per season. I ended up paying 8 bucks per season after using my gift cards.
