The Head Coach Hot Board
-
Matt LaFleur | Packers | HC - If he were to actually become available, like many in the national media seem to believe is a possibility, he is the definition of a home run, slam dunk hire. Elite offensive mind, young, proven, and has a strong track record hiring defensive coordinators.
-
Jesse Minter | Chargers | DC - The hot new name of the coaching cycle, Minter brings some of the goodwill earned by Mike MacDonald to the table as he has followed in his footsteps.
-
Chris Shula | Rams | DC - Younger than the first two names, Shula has bloodlines, but arguably no one has done more with less as the Rams defense is the lowest paid in the league.
-
Grant Udinski | Jaguars | OC - The Bruno Caboclo of HC candidates, a year away from being a year away having just turned 30. If you want to swing for the fences on an offensive guru, this is your best bet. O’Connell and Lawrence have offered high praise.
-
Robert Saleh | 49ers | DC - If you want to add someone in the Vrabel mold, Saleh is your best bet. A firey defensive mastermind who has once again built an amazing defense in San Francisco, this time riddled with injuries. You’d hope he learned what not to do in New York.
-
Kevin Stefanski | ex-Browns | HC - If you subscribe to the theory the Browns can’t do anything right, Stefanski might be atop your list. He’s a proven good coach and good offensive mind. Whether or not he’s actually a great coach held back by the situation is up to you.
-
Klint Kubiak | Seahawks | OC - Another “fun” offensive coach, but with more red flags on his resume. He’s been up and down over his career, but his work in Seattle is undeniable. Also has a bit of nepotism on his side.
-
Declan Doyle | Bears | OC - In the same vein as Udinski, but with an even shorter track record. Doyle can probably be stashed away as a “not yet” kinda guy, but he’ll get a shot sooner than later after learning under the tutelage of Sean Payton and Ben Johnson.
