DIY Ducted Air Filter Design
My garage is 12x20 and I need better air filtration. Even with a Festool connected to my table saw dust gets everywhere. Space is limited so a ceiling mounted system is preferred. I’ve done a deep dive and really appreciate what 3D Handyman has done (lots of testing and designs). Here is my design:
-A 20x60 filter box with 6 20x30 MERV14 filters (sides and bottom only given it will be mounted to the ceiling).
-mount this to the ceiling above the table saw (ceiling is about 9 1/2 feet here).
-12” inline fan 1600cfm (AC Infinity) mounted to the filter box
- Run the duct from the fan to the opposite side of the garage. This creates positive pressure that keeps dust away from the stuff there I want to keep clean. Air flow like this virtually eliminates turbulence which helps get all the dust out of the air vs just blowing it around.
-use a diffuser on the outlet side so I don’t create turbulence.
Anyone try something like this or other designs and have any tips, warnings, learnings, etc? While it may not be optimal, it seems like it will be effective and out of the way. I could probably get by with a 10” fan, but running a 12” at lower power can get the same cfm but be quieter.
