Utah weather really said: “Let’s keep it spicy.”
One day it’s dry enough to turn your curls into tumbleweeds, the next day there’s moisture in the air and suddenly your hair has… opinions.
And here’s the thing your hair isn’t being dramatic. It’s being scientific.
Dry, cold Utah days:
Your hair is thirsty. Like texting-your-ex thirsty.
This is when you want more moisture, creamier products, and stronger hold so your curls don’t puff up the second you walk outside into the lovely dirty air, I mean lovely mountain scape eek.
🌧️ Higher humidity days:
Now the air is doing too much.
This is when lighter layers, gels with humidity resistance, and a tighter seal at the end matter — otherwise frizz shows up uninvited.
Same head of hair. Different forecast. Different strategy.
That’s why we’re always adjusting products in the studio and because curls need flexibility, not rules.
• My go-to main hold products (the backbone of the curl) Davines Medium Hold Molding Gel, Loma Firm Hold Gel, Uncle Funky's Curly Magic Gel. Both the Firm Hold and the Curly Magic are Aloe vera gels. Always put these first as these botanicals play nicer with other products when they get to go first. Also they will create a perfect start to your style because they are hydrating.
• My favorite finish products (for shine, softness, and frizz control) Foams, Spray gels and hairsprays. Honestly when you know it's gonna rain just pull that hair spray out from the back of the cupboard where it's been hiding all year and give your hair a light spray. I prefer 5-15 min of hovering diffuser drying then doing hairspray. I do like a wet spritz but to be honest I have not seen one out in the world that I can get behind. I would go with Davines or Kevin Murphy Can sprays, Deva Curl Foam, AG Naturals Cloud foam.
Because curls don’t need luck they need the right game plan.
