Pop!_Os still "meta"?

I'm a Linux beginner, I've never used any other distro, but I have a basic understanding of programming. I'm looking for a good, customizable distro that's good for gaming. I saw that Pop!_OS updated, I saw that some people complained, and I wanted to know if Pop!_OS is still good for my needs, and if you could recommend any other distros?
