The Minecraft movie

I listened through the OST of A Minecraft Movie at work a couple of times over the last two days and I think a major problem of the movie is the lack of a plot. Like, it follows an extremely bare bones depiction of the overworld with hardly any mechanics, the tone of the characters keeps switching, the songs feel disjointed. Overall I think the biggest issue is that it tries to be a criticism of Mojang and Steve as a character without divesting itself of a lot of the narrative beats of that same game, such as the Malgosha being portrayed as Steve’s enemy instead of the Ender Dragon and the idea that Steve wanted to mine.

Overall I enjoyed the movie but its attempt to use Jack Black as a critique of Mojang falls flat when the movie chains itself to that very company in the first place.
