Amoxicillin led to yeast infection, now on period
So, I’ll give context but my situation is basically as the title states, haha. I got hit with the beautiful month-long flu and ended up with throat pain and coughing fits so bad I went to the doctor. She said I had a sinus infection and post-nasal drip from the flu. From there, gave me Amoxicillin and Benzonatate. I have a day and a half left of my antibiotics, but I noticed last night some mild swelling and discomfort down there and took a mental note. Today, it’s clear I have developed a yeast infection. On my 30-min lunch break I go buy: Chobani Greek yogurt, Pom brand pomegranate and cherry concentrated juice, and quickly rush and grab a Monistat-1 as I was in a rush and have heard of the brand before: rookie mistake, I know. I’ve only had a yeast infection once before and it was roughly 7 years or so ago, also when I was prescribed antibiotics. As im in the bathroom doing some quick research on the Monistat-1 I bought before using it, I realize I’ve started my period. I am not sure if it matters at all, it just suddenly feels like I can’t utilize any vaginal antifungal creams while bleeding. I use a diva cup and panty liners. Got rid of tampons as pads after realizing it’s impossible to avoid bleach, lead, so on and so forth. Before that sounds super stuck up, I made the switch literally last month so I’m still navigating this new realm of menstruation to add to my confusion and seeking out clarity. I’m stuck at a cross roads as far as I can tell and would love any insight, tips, or even friendly reassurance lol. I’m only 24 and can now safely assume that I’m extra sensitive to antibiotics which I can take with me mentally moving forward, not anything that I can really do about that now. I’m scared to take the Monistat-1 kind of in general after reading about it, but especially so because I am actively menstruating and wear a cup (which felt nearly impossible with the swelling, btw). Thank you in advance for any assistance, kind words, you name it. It is a bit of a blabber read, but I’ll read the responses ASAP! Heading to bed now.
