Has this happened to anyone else?

A few times before as a cashier, I’ll scan a customers target circle barcode, and the pay button pops up meaning their card is connected, and they don’t say anything so I hit pay and then after the receipt comes out and it’s too late they’ll say they didn’t want to pay with that card or that they wanted to use gift cards first.

It’s the worst feeling. But I don’t wanna ask every single person if they want me to pay before I click it, it confuses people because for most people it’s obvious. But there’s always those very few people that don’t warn me or don’t take their card off and then get upset that the transaction already went through.
