Is my Cuban tree frog being aggressive??
Let me start by saying I accidentally got my frog with a house plant. I’ve had her for about a year now.
I usually open her vivarium door before I prep her food which hasn’t been an issue until recently. She has previously sat politely in her food dish, but the last two times I’ve been shaking the nutrient powder onto her prey, she’s jumped outside of her cage about 18 inches out, directly onto my hand and tried to eat them before I’ve even gotten the prey out of its container.
When I put her back in and she frantically jumps at the glass while biting it. There is unfortunately no other way to feed her besides using the front door.
Now when I reach into the cage recently to change anything, she tries eating me over and over again, or she just tries climbing on me. She no longer ignores me. I have to be incredibly quick in and out to do anything at this point.
I used to gently poke her butt with plastic tongs when I needed her to move out of my way or get her to move towards prey, but she’s stopped moving out of the way in favor of turning around to look at me and staring blankly.
I don’t know if she so strongly associates me with food that she thinks she should just bite at me until she finds food or if I’m somehow angering her all of a sudden? Or maybe she’s having vision problems? This is very different from her usual behavior. I don’t know if it frogs “get used to you”? any insight is appreciated
