I transferred to a new college
I struggle with general anxiety, bad social anxiety, and agoraphobia that has kept me hiding at home most of the time.
Due to said anxiety and likely my autism, I get really anxious when there are any changes to my routine. If I'm starting a new job or school or something, I will be so sick to my stomach, tossing and turning all night, and spending the prior 24 hours worrying to death. I had to take anxiety meds to get myself able to sleep at all.
I went to my new college on last Thursday. Was a bit of a stressful day with a few hiccups, was hard to find my classroom, and I basically spent the whole day running around the campus trying to located everything. Was really tense but I got through it.
It's been a few days and I have to say: I love it!
I love my teachers, everyone in my class is really helpful and approachable, I've made some small talk with people around me surprisingly easily.
I'm really anxious in public places, but I feel safe there. I spent 3 or 4 hours after classes just relaxing, studying, going to get food, walking around looking at classroom billboards.
I transferred because my previous school was a very rural one that didn't have many resources, few programs, being different(orientation, fashion, look, religion, views, etc.) was frowned upon due to the school being very traditional, there was nothing near the campus, and people weren't really that friendly. My new college is much more open-minded, diverse, has much better graduation rates, way more helpful student programs and classes available, and I fit in much better with my peers.
I was going to transfer back later on, but I love my new school so much, I'd be really sad if I did.
