I’ve been spending way too much time lately thinking about my physical desk setup, and honestly, I’m starting to feel like my triple-monitor rig is becoming a relic of the past.

I was testing some new spatial computing workflows this morning, and it hit me: **We are witnessing the slow death of the "rectangle" as our primary way of interacting with data.** For decades, we’ve been confined to these glowing glass boxes—whether it’s a phone, a tablet, or a monitor. But after spending a few hours working with windows pinned to my actual physical walls and having a 3D model of a project sitting on my coffee table, coming back to a flat screen felt... claustrophobic.

# Here is what’s messing with my head:

* **The "Weight" of Reality:** I love the idea of an infinite canvas, but I’ll be the first to admit that wearing a "computer" on my face for four hours straight still feels like a chore. The tech is getting lighter, but the friction is still there.
* **Privacy vs. Presence:** In my spatial office, I feel more "present" in my work, but I also realize that the device is mapping every inch of my private room to make that happen. It’s a trade-off I’m still trying to process.
* **The Social Cost:** My wife walked into the room while I was deep in a "spatial" focus session. To her, I was just a guy staring blankly into space in a silent room. That disconnect is weird, right?

I’m genuinely curious about where you guys stand on this. I personally think we’re about two hardware iterations away from physical monitors becoming "legacy tech" for anyone who doesn't do high-end color grading.

**Do you think we’re actually ready to ditch our physical screens for good, or is the "comfort" of a traditional monitor something we’ll never truly give up?** I’d love to hear if anyone else has tried a "monitor-less" week and how it actually went for your productivity (or your sanity).

Is the Era of Physical Monitors Over?
