I am making my 7 year old daughter an honorary GenXer.

Whatever

So I am about to make myself look bad here which is why I will be overly explaining things.

I went to the doctor recently due to going through menopause and part of that has been fatigue because I can't stay asleep. I was waking up after 3 or 4 hours of sleeping. The doctor put me on vitamin D2 and I am sleeping better. Apparently too well because I slept through 3 different alarms.

My daughter woke me up but late. I usually start getting her ready at 7:30 and she woke me up at 8:21. Her bus usually gets to the house at 8:30. I threw clothes on her and shoved her out the door. She was putting her shoes on on the porch. I ran back inside to go to the bathroom and grab some warmer clothes and by the time I got back outside she was gone and I assumed she had gotten on the bus.

Nope, she decided to walk to school all by herself. BTW her school is only 7 minutes away walking. We have walked to school in the past. So she knew where it was. I just don't like her walking across the road by herself because the road in front of the house is one of the few thorough fares that big trucks can use.

She was like but you left me. I said I was going to the bathroom and I would be right back. She got herself to school though.

When I found out she started crying and I got her calmed down and let her know I wasn't mad at her and actually really proud of her. We made a deal she could walk to school by herself but she had to let me walk her across the street. Apparently she enjoys walking herself.

She reminds me of me when I was a kid. I was also really independent and it drove the adults around me nuts for a lot of the same reasons I got scared when I found out what she did. I had always planned to let her start next year anyways but apparently she can do it this year.
