Low ELO ranked is a vicious circle that needs work.
The past few weeks I've started to take the game a little more serious (this will be relevant and almost ironic later) and spend more time playing normals so I have a grasp on my role/champ before I start putting LP on the line.
I've come to realize (in Low ELO anyways) that people don't do any of that and choose to learn new champs in ranked or just how to play the game.
I'm in Bronze 4. I'm a jungle main. I know I'm not great or even good by most standards at this game, but I do my best. The game has always been team oriented, but when you constantly get saddled with team mates that don't know the mechanics of their champ or how the game works, it doesn't matter how well you play, you sink. Without fail 3/5 games I have a lane going double digit deaths and 0-3 kills, and an absolute lack of awareness of what their champ does. An MF that didn't know that they needed to auto too and not just rely on abilities, a brand that panic spammed every ability as soon as they were up. A 1/3 or even a 1/4 of the enemy laner in CS.
Ive been going back and looking at the worst players in op.gg and every single one was the same. ARAM/Arena and strictly ranked, almost all heavy losses, with different champs. Almost zero normals, no trying to get familiar with a certain champ, just straight into ranked, random champ and doing their best to be the team buffet.
Teamwork makes the dream work and no matter how much I gank, farm, ward, ping, all of it means nothing because at least 1 person is just doing their best to mainline the enemy team with power. We all have bad games, but the pattern some players have of ARAM x10 with mixed results and then right into ranked with the same ideology as ARAM, is astounding. It makes climbing out of low ELO almost impossible. I can work on improving as much as I can, but if I constantly get saddled with games that essentially become 4v5s, and the wins are few and far between, then there is no climbing out of bronze. I'm all for ARAM and other modes but they don't teach lane roles and don't help with champ familiarity.
It'd be nice if something was implemented something to discourage this. The 10 placement matches obviously aren't enough or at the very least, if someone is consistently doing sub par, forbid them from ranked for another x amount of normals and reevaluate them. The bottom rung of low ELO is almost impossible to climb out of thanks to this.
Tl;dr
Normals need to be pressed on people more and constant sub par performance should result in ranked restrictions/punishments. I don't know if it's because of the beginning of the season and folks are still being sifted into the right groups, but this feels so incredibly stacked against people trying.
