The wards sensed intent, in a way. Her magic, bolstered by the natural wellspring of the forest's, knew the hearts of men well. It would repel those seeking to harm her... unless they had an equally powerful means to pierce through.

So, what did it mean to find a lycanthrope on her doorstep? The conflict warring in his eyes, his immense size at odds with his wary posture; all this drew her closer, rather than frightening her.

She dropped her herbs in a nearby handwoven basket, then began to approach her guest with open palms, her heart in her throat. Cassandra was a clever sort, but clearly a risk-taker. She made it to the fence line of her property, the one tangible thing separating them, with questions on the tip of her tongue.

Her first words, spoken quietly but surely, were more of an observation: "There's more to you than meets the eye, isn't there?"
