Keratin months ago → extreme static hair now. Considering hair botox

Hair💇‍♀️

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to get some insight from people who have experienced something similar, because I’m trying to make a thoughtful decision and not repeat past mistakes.

About a year ago (March 2025), I impulsively did a keratin smoothing treatment at a salon. I don’t regret it entirely — it looked great at the time — but I’ve since learned that impulse hair decisions are not for me.

Fast forward to now:

My hair is very long, naturally straight to slightly wavy, and the length itself is strong and healthy. However, this winter my hair has become extremely static — to the point where even oils don’t help. I can’t wear my hair loose without it flying everywhere, and even my stylist was surprised by how fast the static came back after applying oil in the salon.

Important context:

•	I’m currently on isotretinoin, so my scalp produces very little oil

•	The keratin treatment was done once, and I haven’t done any chemical treatments since

•	New hair growth looks straight as well (which I understand is normal and not caused by keratin)

•	My stylist suspects the previous keratin/smoothing may still be affecting the lengths unevenly

My current stylist (very conservative, health-focused) suggested:

•	A minimal blunt trim at the ends only (no layers, no thinning)

•	A light hair botox / deep moisture treatment, blow-dry only (no flat iron), to reduce static and porosity

•	She emphasized that this is not permanent, but meant to stabilize the hair through winter

I’m aware that:

•	Hair botox doesn’t change hair growth or texture permanently

•	It mainly helps with moisture retention, porosity, and frizz/static

•	It’s different from keratin and doesn’t involve sealing with extreme heat

What I’m trying to figure out is:

•	Has anyone here dealt with extreme static hair after keratin + isotretinoin / dry climate?

•	Did hair botox (or similar moisture-focused treatments) actually make hair more manageable over time?

•	Did it help preserve length by reducing breakage?

•	Or is this something better managed only with time and growing the treated hair out?

I’m not looking for a miracle or a permanent fix — just something that genuinely helps my hair function normally during winter without causing long-term issues.

Would really appreciate real experiences (good or bad). Thank you 🤍
