Is it time to end this business to maintain peace of mind

Business Talk

Little background. To earn extra income, I worked part time at an auto parts supplier while working full time in construction. The store owner often gave me extra hours to perform maintenance and repair work at his shop and other properties he owned. A property manager noticed the quality of my work and asked if I would be interested in doing work for him. I saw this as an opportunity to start my own business.

I completed work for them and they were happy with the results. After that, other properties under their management began contacting me for various tasks. At the first location, I built a strong reputation and they were impressed with my work. However, their opinion of me now seems to be changing. They have started accusing me of breaking things that I never touched or worked on.

For example, I was asked to install a receptacle and turned off a circuit to complete the work. After I finished, I began painting a wall. Shortly after, the manager came running over claiming their coffee machine was showing a water filtration error. They blamed me, saying it had worked before I came in, even though I had no knowledge of the issue and never touched the machine.

In another situation, one property changed their fluorescent tubes but lost the door that held the acrylic lenses. I spent hours going to wholesalers, calling suppliers, and researching to try to find a replacement, but I could not locate one. Despite my efforts, they called me lazy and accused me of not trying to help or work. Interactions like this make me want to end this business and have sucked out what I enjoyed doing.
