non-traditional sleep
Age: Almost 11 months
Current schedule / wake windows:
DWT is around 12:00 PM.
Typical day looks like:
4/3/6
More specifically:
• Sleeps overnight 12:00 AM – 12:00 PM
• Awake window: 12:00 PM – 3/4 PM
• Nap: 3/4 PM – 5/6 PM (2–3 hours)
• Awake window: 5/6 PM – 12:00 AM
• Bedtime: 12:00 AM
This isn’t strict rule, sometimes he goes to sleep at 11 pm, or wakes at 11 am.
Total sleep in 24 hrs: 15–16 hours
No formal sleep training. He generally falls asleep with minimal assistance.
Context:
This schedule works best for our family.
Husband works 6 PM – 6 AM.
I work 8 AM – 4 PM.
I feed baby a bottle before work and he goes back to sleep until noon.
He’s happy, healthy, and meeting milestones. We’ve had two short regressions but otherwise sleep is stable. This is the best way for us to avoid daycares/sitters (lots of horror stories in our town)
Question:
Is this schedule harmful in any way long-term, or is total sleep more important than clock time?
