if i do an incomplete plan for a class, can i change my mind and cancel it?

title; had a class in the fall that ended up with me and the prof doing an incomplete plan to finish the work by spring break; but after further planning i’ve realized it wouldn’t be feasible. is it possible to cancel the plan and take the F for the class?
