People often misinterpret the things I say and I’ve quit talking to people because of it.
I’m not shy, or afraid to speak.
But there have been so many times in my life where I said something and the person I was talking to didn’t understand, or thought I meant something different.
As an example.
I once told an acquaintance “I’m used to being laughed at.”
I thought that was like a funny way to tell her “I’m not offended, it’s not new to me”. I thought I was bantering with her. She thought I was fishing for pity and wanted her to feel bad for me.
There have been a lot of moments like this in my life. It hurts to be misunderstood and have someone think the worst of you, especially when they think you mean the opposite of what you really mean.
I don’t know what to do anymore. The only way I know how to make it stop hurting is to just avoid meaningful conversation with anyone. I stick to small talk and the necessary communication needed to get through life. I’m not good at anything else
