Would I be missing a lot of context if I skipped most of the mainline games to play LAD?

Title says it all, I really *really* want to play LAD, but I've only played y0 and yk1. I sort of don't want to go through 2-6 just yet, cause of burnout. Would I be missing a lot of important story elements or are they not that essential?
