Use copper or brass?

Most of my potable water lines are copper, except for the main entry point which uses a galvanized nipple and some elbows. I am planning to replace that section with either copper pipe or 6" brass nipple. Does it make much difference which material I use? I an in the SF bay area.

My main concern is to minimize any damage from water hammer, earthquakes or similar events.
